BELMONT -- Gunn's Sarah Robinson became the sixth girls runner to break the 17-minute barrier on the Crystal Springs course with a time of 16 minutes, 59 seconds, to win the Division I race at Saturday's Central Coast Section finals.

"I am really happy,'' Robinson said. "I was so close last time (running 17:04 at her league finals). I'm just really pleased. It was a good run for my final CCS.''

Robinson had to battle windy conditions down the home stretch and also a delay at the start of the race when paramedics were called for a runner in the previous race.

"By the time the race started the temperature must have dropped 10 degrees,'' Gunn coach PattiSue Plumer said. "To run a historically important race under those conditions was unbelievable.''

San Lorenzo Valley's Anna Maxwell ran 16:53 earlier in the day in winning the Division IV race.
